An example auction
Example auction — Saturday, 19:00
Ended3 of 4 lots sold for a total of R 4 900. On a real auction each lot closes at its own time, and a bid in the last minutes extends that lot's clock — so a late bidder cannot snipe a lot out from under somebody on a slow connection.

Lot 1: Cockatiels

Lot 2: Peach-faced Lovebirds

Lot 3: Bourke's Parakeets

Lot 4: Sun Conures

Every lot is entered on the same standard sheet, and this is what a bidder reads before deciding. The reserve stays hidden until the auction ends; the seller is not named while the lot is running, only their record.

What the buyers wrote afterwards
Once the birds have arrived, the buyer scores the seller on four things and adds a comment in their own words. Ratings are public and permanent, they survive a deleted lot, and the seller may answer any one of them beneath it. A buyer who would rather not be named can publish theirs anonymously.
Birds exactly as described and as photographed, and the ring numbers matched the sheet. Answered every question before I bid. Box was a little tight for four, but they travelled well and arrived in good condition.
Healthy, well-handled birds and easy to deal with. The hen is a little older than I expected from the description, which is the only reason this is not five.
How a seller's score is built
| Accuracy of description | 4.5 |
| Communication | 5.0 |
| Health and condition | 5.0 |
| Packaging and transport | 4.5 |
The four scores average into the one number a bidder sees on a lot. Because a running lot does not name its seller, that number and the comments behind it are what a bidder judges them on.
